Overview of Position

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Vice President, Managing Director, Corporate Services, the role of the Intermediate Interior Designer is to support Commercial Real Estate Sales Representatives and Brokers by conducting high-level programming interviews and developing "Test Fits" for potential clients' occupancy of various premises options.

The Intermediate Interior Designer will help Sales Representatives and Brokers in their presentations to secure business and assist clients define their commercial real estate needs by providing design alternatives and high-level feasibility studies based on clients' office space standards and occupancy needs.

The Intermediate Interior Designer will be responsible for the following tasks:   

  • Liaise with clients to gather business requirements and bring forward workplace solutions to meet client objectives;
  • Produce a high-level programme of requirements by collecting, consolidating and analysing client information;
  • Propose design options and feasibility studies (i.e., "Test Fits") in line with client standards;
  • Develop office space plans and presentations.

He/She will also be called upon to support a variety of other functions, depending on the needs of the department and/or company.

Qualifications and Conditions:

  • Diploma or degree in Interior Design from an accredited/recognized institution;
  • Minimum 3-5 years Canadian practical working experience;
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD 2011 or 2012 versions (or higher);
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office, Photoshop, Sketch-up and other applications would be a definite asset;
  • Working knowledge of commercial interior design principles/theory and Building Code(s), interior construction and drawing detailing;
  • Experience in programming;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and juggle conflicting priorities;
  • Ability to stay calm and function effectively in a hectic, fast-paced environment with pressing deadlines;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Creative and self-disciplined;
  • Excellent client management, customer service and negotiation skills;
  • Knowledge of the commercial real estate industry and industry "players" is an asset.
